From the Collection:

The Historical Photograph Collection is largely comprised of materials created by or for the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. Some of the earliest photographs of the estate were created and sold to visitors by the Association as a means of income. Those efforts helped to establish an important collection of 19th century views. The collection spans the 1850s to 2000s and includes over 140 linear feet of analog material providing a visual history of the Mansion, outbuildings, tombs, grounds, events, visitors, collection objects, personnel, and changes throughout the estate.

Physical Description

Cabinet card of the new room in the Mount Vernon Mansion. A large screen covers the fireplace and hearth. A printed label on the reverse reads: State Dining Room, Mount Vernon Mansion, Or Banquet Hall, in which Washington gave his State Dinners, displaying Peal's [Rembrandt Peale] painting of Washington before Yorktown and the interesting old relic, the Mayflower Chair with its old-fashioned straight back, which was brought over in the ship Mayflower in 1620, and th Tripod with which Washington commenced life as a surveyor. Also, a bust of Washington by French sculptor Houdon. Copyright by the Mount Vernon Association.
