From the Collection:

Views of Mount Vernon spanning more than 100 years. The Robert Waldsmith Collection consists of approximately 300 stereographs and cabinet cards by Alexander Gardner, N. G. Johnson, Luke D. Dillon, and others. Highlights of the collection include: several west front views of the Mansion, including the earlist known one by Frederick Langenheim, circa 1856; an early view of the tomb, circa 1857, and a collection of Washington statues and buildings honoring the first President.

Cabinet card of the ruins of the west end of the greenhouse slave quarters at Mount Vernon. At left, a portion of the structure has been rebuilt. Roof tops of the Mansion and outbuilding can be seen in the distance. The following text is printed directly onto the reverse of the cardboard mount: Ruins of Old Quarters, Mount Vernon. Copyrighted by Luke C. Dillon, Photographer to Mount Vernon, Office at Pullman's Gallery, 935 Penn. Avenue, Washington D. C. A penciled note (in the hand of Robert Waldsmith) on the reverse reads, 'See p. 40 Ann.[Annual] Report 1951. Before 1889.'
