Holland, William, 1887-1968
Biography
William Holland began working at Mount Vernon in 1904 as a butler. In 1932 he was promoted to guard. Four years later, in 1936, he became the head tomb guard and held this position until retiring in 1965.

The Historical Photograph Collection is largely comprised of materials created by or for the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. The collection spans the 1930s to the 2000s and includes analog material made up of a variety of sizes of film negatives providing a visual history of the Mansion, outbuildings, tombs, grounds, events, visitors, collection objects, personnel, restoration, and changes throughout the estate.
